You may have heard health practitioners, or friends and family talking about Celloids. But what are Celloids, and what are they used for?
Maurice Blackmore, the founder of Blackmores (and an Aussie!!!), introduced Celloid mineral therapy in the 1930s. Today, clinicians continue to include them as both adjunctive and stand-alone therapy, because of their simplicity, yet physiologically active doses. Celloids provide a low-intervention naturopathic approach for use with everyone including those who are pregnant, babies, children and the elderly.
With the 21st Century’s significant health issues of chronic disease, inflammation and environmentally-induced illness, certain minerals are sometimes the missing links that significantly impact the metabolism of other nutrients and overall health.
We're going to break out a little science, so hold on tight. Celloids are inorganic mineral compounds in cation:anion forms. That is, a positively-charged cation (e.g. Ca2+) combined with a negatively charged anion (e.g. PO4-). These ions are foundational to critical life processes including regulating body fluids (electrolytes), transmission of nerve impulses, bone matrix and growth, enzyme function and energy production.
When we consider that DNA and RNA are polyelectrolytes (specifically bound ions that are required for folding and function of nucleic acids), we can begin to understand the fundamental importance of the ion atmosphere.
The composition of the ion atmosphere in terms of the number of cations and anions around a nucleic acid depends not only on the type of cation present, but also on the anion identity. Correlating this with plants as a source of minerals, consideration also has to be given to soil quality and the availability of nutrients for human nutrition.
As in the human body, in order to maintain electro-neutrality, negative charges on solid particles (soil colloids) are balanced by an equal number of cations. Without the ability of soils to bind both cations and anions, essential plant nutrients would be rapidly washed out of the soil. As most practitioners are aware, part of our nutrition relies on optimum soil quality, something sadly questionable in today’s environment.
To sum up, healthcare practitioners prescribe Celloids to support and maintain optimal mineral balance for a myriad of functions. The composition of the Celloids makes them readily available in a form that your body can directly use.
So if your healthcare practitioner prescribes you Celloids, now you know what they are. We stock BioCeuticals and Blackmore's Celloids. These are a practitioner only range, so you will not find them on the shelf - instead please ask one of our friendly staff for assistance.
